Mercedes-Benz GLA reveals H247

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new entry into the Stuttgart’s Crossover lineup with the H247. Featuring all the latest trimmings of its siblings, this new GLA is considered to be a sportier, lifestyle-oriented alternative to the GLB by the automaker.

This car features the second generation of the Modular Front Architecture (MFA2) and is over 10 cm taller (1,611mm tall) than the previous generation model. The vehicle allows for more headroom in the front with a commanding view out despite the rise in the seating position.

At the time of launch, the car will be offered in one petrol variant, GLA 200. The car features an M282 1.33-litre turbocharged engine developed in affiliation with Renault.

The four-cylinder engine produces a maximum power of 160hp and peak torque of up to 250Nm, unlocking a top speed of 210km/h. The engine comes mated with Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch as the standard transmission.

With the looks of a proper SUV, this GLA features a more noble front-end design with an extensive grille. Users can also opt for an optional Multibeam LED technology for the headlights and the squared-off wheels now have been up-sized to 20-inches in diameter.

The interior of the car adapts more styling from the B-Class than the GLB, featuring the touches of a large flatscreen panel and turbine-style air vents. The dashboard now comes with cutouts for twin-displays and the door features tubular grab handles finished in metallic rim. The vehicle also features an advanced voice control system alongside the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) similar to its other siblings.

The safety feature of this new car includes an autonomous emergency braking system which comes as a standard, including a driver assistance package that enables efficient cruise control in the vehicle. Apart from the initial safety features, GLA also provides active steer assist, traffic sign recognition and blind-spot monitoring amongst a list of many salient features.
