Mercedes-Benz EQE launched in Malaysia, here’s all you need to know about the luxury EV

Adding to the fast-growing list of electric vehicles available in Malaysia is the all-new Mercedes-Benz EQE luxury sedan. Launched earlier this morning, the German EV is on sale in a single CBU variant, the EQE 350+, priced at RM 419,888 (on-the-road without insurance). Being an imported BEV, it enjoys import and excise duties and road tax exemption till Dec 2023.

Let’s get to know this new Mercedes EQ model in detail -

Mercedes-Benz EQE powertrain 

Based on the brand’s new EVA platform like the EQS, the new luxury saloon promises a “more dynamic” driving experience. It comes powered by a rear-mounted single electric motor that pumps out a maximum power output of 292 hp and a peak torque of 565 Nm. This enables the EV to hit the century sprint in 6.4 seconds and attain a top speed of 210 kmph. 

The sedan offers the maximum torque from the first metre while ensuring both thrilling starting performance and effortless acceleration. It comes with a conventional Comfort suspension setup mated to DYNAMIC SELECT, which has four driving modes to choose from viz. Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Individual. In all the drive modes, the braking energy recuperation rate can be set via the steering wheel gearshift paddles.

Mercedes-Benz EQE driving range and charging

The electric motor of the Mercedes-Benz EQE is fed by a 90.6-kWh battery pack, which offers a WLTP-claimed range of 669 km on a single charge. The onboard 11 kW AC charger takes eight hours for juicing up the battery. However, with the help of a 170-kWh DC port, one can get the 10-80% state of charge in just 32 minutes. 

Included in the charging pack is a five-metre charging cable that can be used for both wall box chargers at home and public fast charging stations.

The new Mercedes-Benz EV features a sporty exterior design with all one-bow lines, cab-forward design, and other elements of Mercedes-EQ. It has a coupe-like silhouette with short front and rear overhangs and a pronounced shoulder section, offering it an athletic character. 

The front fascia looks minimalistic with a faux grille flanked by Digital Light matrix LED headlights paired with LED daytime running lights. Equipment kit also includes an AMG Line styling kit, 3D helical tail lights, 19-inch AMG-style alloy wheels, and flush door handles.

Dimensionally, the EV measures 4,946 mm in length, 1,961 mm in width, and 1,512 mm in height. The wheelbase is set at 3,120 mm.

The interior of the luxury saloon boasts high-quality materials and excellent workmanship. It is decked up with Anthracite line structure lime wood trim and MICROCUT microfibre trims in black/space grey with red stitching. The sports seats are covered with Artico man-made leather upholstery while the multifunction sports steering wheel comes wrapped in Nappa leather. Further adding to the elegance are AMG floor mats, backlit trim with a Mercedes-Benz pattern, and door sill panels with "Mercedes-Benz" lettering.

Mercedes-Benz EQE safety

The sedan has an impressive passive safety performance, thanks to its fully-electric architecture comprising a rigid passenger cell, deformation zones, and a special crash-protected area for the battery pack.

The Malaysia-spec EQE 350+ comes equipped with the following advanced safety systems -

• Driver Assistance Plus package, including Active Distance Assist, Active Stop-and-Go Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Pre-Safe impulse, evasive manoeuvre support, Extended automatic restart, and Urban Guard
• Parking Package, including 360-degree view monitor and Active Parking Assist
• Multiple airbags
• Self-dimming mirrors 
• Tyre pressure monitoring system
• Mercedes-Benz emergency call system

Overall, the new Mercedes-Benz brings a whole lot to the table to woo Malaysian customers. It is now on sale at all Mercedes-Benz dealerships across the nation. With each purchase, the brand is offering a standard four-year unlimited mileage warranty on the vehicle and a 10-year/250,000 km warranty on the battery.
