Mercedes-Benz CLS comes to Malaysia in 450 Edition 1 trim
KUALA LUMPUR: It’s a new Merc car ever another day. No, we aren’t complaining but it’s just so overwhelming. While other automakers settle for two to three launches a year or maybe slightly more, there is no stopping for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia. Continuing its Dream Car model collection in the country, the German automaker launched four cars in a day, including the AMG GT C and CLS. Well, it’s the later one we will be focusing here.
For quite some time we were hoping to see Mercedes-Benz CLS lineup here in Malaysia. And it gets fulfilled in the form of the CLS 450 Edition 1 model. Adding the cherry on the cake is the new M256 petrol engine that’s making its debut with this new four-door coupe.
Under the bonnet rests a 3.0-litre turbo inline six-cylinder unit that generates 362 hp of power at 5500 to 6100 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 1600 to 4000 rpm. Also, a 48-volt lithium-ion on-board network forms a part of the mill. It supplements the integrated starter generator and 12-volt system in place. Thus combining the function of a starter as well as an alternator. Besides all this, the following system is efficient enough to aid performance numbers too, though for a short time only. It can boost up to 21 hp and 250 Nm of torque as and when needed.
The Merc CLS engine is paired to a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic gearbox. As for its performance figures, the car can complete 0 to 100 kmph run in 4.8 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 250 kmph.
The Malaysian-spec CLS 450 adopts a classier, more elegant look. The car design language seems to shift from its predecessor heavily ceased to look and reminds more of the car’s first-generation model. A few of the highlighting features include a trapezoidal grille, bold tapered headlights, and LED tail lights which are now angular. We also get Night and AMG Line exterior package. An Agility Control comfort suspension and LED multibeam headlights with adaptive high beam comes as standard. The car rides on multi-spoke black 20-inch alloy wheels that come with high-sheen rim flange.
The cabin of the Mercedes-Benz CLS closely resembles the W213 E-Class, especially with its glass cover, horizontal dashboard, and Windscreen cockpit with twin 12.3-inch display screen. The amenities for the CLA Edition 1 are mentioned below. However, before that there are a few features offered as standard - AMG illuminated door sill panels, premium ambient lighting, electric sliding glass sunroof, and a 64 color exterior palette.
