Meet Volkswagen Passat Pro: A China-exclusive luxury sedan

KUALA LUMPUR: While the Volkswagen Passat has been discontinued in Malaysia, the sedan continues to thrive in other markets, including China. The German automaker has recently introduced a new version of the popular sedan in the Chinese market, called the Passat Pro. 

The new Passat Pro will be sold alongside the Magotan, another similar-sized sedan offered through Volkswagen's FAW-VW joint venture. This partnership allows Volkswagen to maintain a strong presence in the competitive Chinese market, where sedans are still a popular choice among consumers.

Let’s know the key highlights of the Volkswagen Passat Pro - 

• The Passat Pro measures 5,006 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,489 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,871 mm.
• The sedan features a dynamic design with several styling bits borrowed from the Euro-spec model.
• The front dons a massive blacked-out grille, a curvy bonnet, and sleek lighting elements while the rear comes with a full-width LED light bar and a sporty bumper.

• The Passat Pro is available in Starry Sky Edition and Pioneer Edition along with the optional Black Warrior body kit.
• The cabin houses a digital cockpit setup with a 15.0-inch infotainment screen and a 10.3-inch instrument cluster. There is also a third screen positioned in front of the front passenger, measuring 11.6-inch.

• The "cloud feeling" seats come with electric adjustment and offer heating, cooling, and massage features for passengers in both the front and rear.
• Other comfort-enhancing bits include - a head-up display with AR,  an in-car fragrance system, a Harman Kardon sound system with 16 speakers, and a 30-colour ambient lighting system.

• Under the skin, the China-spec Volkswagen Passat Pro carries a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four TSI engine which is tuned to generate a maximum power of 220 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm of torque.
• The power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. 
• As for driving assistance, the customers get a comprehensive ADAS package ((L2++ IQ. Pilot) developed by renowned drone maker DJI.

Volkswagen has yet to announce the price of the Passat Pro in China, but pre-orders for the sedan have already begun.
