Meet the Russian electric Mustang based on the Tesla Model S

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in 2018, the Russian automaker Aviar unveiled its idea of remaking the classic Ford Mustang Fastback boasting retro styling, a modern interior, and a Tesla sourced electric powertrain. No doubt, the rendered images were cool but deemed sketchy at that time. Well, after two years, the automaker revealed the specifications of the coupe.

Dubbed as the Aviar R67, the coupe uses a combination of aluminum and carbon fibre in the chassis and built around the styling of the original two-seater Mustang concept from 1962. The exterior features some modern touches, including cleaned up body lines, LED lights, and bigger wheels. 

This electric Mustang is actually based on the Tesla Model S as under the carbon fibre body panels; it is all Tesla. The battery, transmission, motors, suspension, and electronics come from the powerful Model S.

Surely, the R67 lacks the V8 engine's rumble, but with dual electric motors generating 840 hp and an all-wheel-drive system, it is capable of a 0-100 kmph sprint of 2.2 seconds. This makes it even quicker than the Model S Performance, which can manage the same in 2.4 seconds.

The top speed of the electric Mustang is rated at 250 kmph, while the 100 kWh battery pack delivers a range of 315 miles, i.e., 33 miles less than the Model S, maybe because of the R67's less aerodynamic body.

In terms of safety, the automaker has added five airbags, Autopilot, and reversing camera in the Aviar R67 specs sheet.

However, the maker of the original Mustang, Ford has also revealed its own version of the electric coupe - Mustang Mach-E. Now, the auto-enthusiasts would be able to choose between the two. Those who envision an electric Mustang with a retro look can go for the Russian based Aviar R67.
