Meet the ever rugged Ford Explorer Timberline with go-anywhere ability
KUALA LUMPUR: Ford has introduced a more aggressive, strong variant of the Explorer called the Timberline. With its go-anywhere ability, it sure resembles the Subaru Outback Wilderness revealed last month.
What did Ford add to the Explorer Timberline to make it so capable?
Well, a lot. The mid-size SUV comes with several standard features like the all-wheel-drive system, new rear Torsen limited-slip differential, Hill Descent Control, and Terrain Management System. The latter comes with seven drive modes, including Trai and Deep Sand/Snow, thus helping the driver adjust the car’s setting in accordance with the terrain.
It also gets steel skid plates, recalibrated steering, heavy-duty dampers, unique spring & anti-roll bar tuning, Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tyre, and redesigned front & rear bumper.

On the dimension front, the above mentioned all-terrain tyres along with the Explorer Police Interceptor borrowed dampers, increasing the ride height by 20 mm. Ford claims a minimum ground clearance stands of 221 mm, maximum approach angle of 23.5 degree, and maximum departure angle of 23.7 degree. It gets a towing capacity of 2,400 kg, thanks to the standard Class III Trailer Tow Package.

Its newest version, the Explorer Timberline gets a new grille with LED light strips, blacked-out head- and tail-lights, beefier front & rear plastic body cladding, 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels with laser-etched Timberline mountain logo, and red Ember front tow hooks.
The cabin gets heated front seats, rubber floor, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
What powers the Ford Explorer Timberline?
This rugged variant sources its power from an EcoBoost 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that makes a maximum power output of 300 hp along with a peak torque of 420 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a ten-speed automatic transmission.
2021 Ford Explorer Timberline safety bits
The mid-size SUV Timberline variant is equipped with the full suite of Co-Pilot 360 and Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ safety technology. It includes - traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, evasive steering assist, and lane centring assist.
