Meet the all-new Bugatti Bolide, a race-ready speed demon with 1,825 hp
KUALA LUMPUR: Bugatti has been known for creating cars that are as quick and powerful as they are luxurious. Last year, the brand’s Chiron Super Sport 300+ made a speed record of 300 miles per hour, although it was broken by the SSC Tuatara later on. And now, the French automaker used its engineering expertise to build an extraordinary, lightweight track-focused hyper sports car, which is not just a speed demon like the Chiron rather it is built from the ground up to destroy the race track. Meet the all-new Bugatti Bolide.
Powering this track monster is a massive quad-turbo 8.0-litre W16 engine taken from the Chiron. It kicks out a whopping power of 1600 PS on regular fuel while with high octane fuel, the number rises to 1850 PS along with a peak torque of 1850 Nm of torque. That is 350 PS more than the Chiron thanks to Bolide’s dry weight of only 1,240 kg. It helps in getting a weight-to-power ratio of just 0.67kg/PS. The engine is coupled with a seven-speed DSG transmission and all-wheel-drive system.
Talking about the acceleration numbers, Buggati claims that the Bolide can hit the 0-100 kmph mark in just 2.17 seconds, 0-200 kmph in 4.36 seconds, 0-300 kmph in 7.37 seconds, 0-400 kmph in 12.08 seconds, and 0-500 kmph in 20.16 seconds. The automaker also stated that the race-ready coupe can cover a lap of Le Mans’ Circuit de la Sarthe in 3:07.1 minutes and to get around the Nürburgring, it would need 5:23.1 minutes.
These numbers are seven seconds faster than the LMP1 Toyota TS050 Hybrid at LeMans and also within the Porsche 919 Evo’s Nurburgring record. However, these are estimated figures, actual has yet to come.
As for the dramatic design, the Bolide looks something out of the world. It gets a low-slung nose upfront with the brand's iconic horseshoe grille paired with massive aero components. The swanky headlights, ventilated hood, a prominent roof scoop, and 18-inch wheels wrapped with Michelin slick tyres round off its exterior look. Inside, the low-slung racing seat stimulates a driving position of a fighter jet.
Buggati has yet to decide whether it will put the Bolide into production or not, thus there is no price tag for the track-focused beast as of now. Even if a production-spec Bolide comes, it seems to be a limited series track-only model with a sky-high price tag.
