Meet Porsche Mission R concept, an all-electric customer sports racing car

KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche has got a spectacular look in its mind for the future of the automotive sector and it is visible via the Mission R concept car.

Currently, on display at the IIA Mobility 2021 in Munich, the Porsche concept is an amalgamation of state-of-the-art technologies and sustainable materials (natural fibre-reinforced plastics). Not to forget its passion for racing.

Further supporting its sports car characteristics, the Mission R concept features a progressive design, characteristic lines from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, and it features extremely low-slung.

On the power front, it gets two newly developed electric motors that deliver a maximum power of 1,088 PS in the so-called qualifying mode. Its 80 kWh battery and innovative recuperation system make sprint racing reality with no loss of output. On the performance front, the car with the help of the all-wheel-drive system can complete the century sprint in just 2.5 seconds and its top speed is rated at 300 mph.

Furthermore, on the race track, Porsche’s electric racer achieves the same lap time as the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. All thanks to the newly designed battery cells and electric motors the concept churns out a constant power of 680 PS in race mode.

Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG said,
"Porsche is the brand for people who fulfil their dreams. This is also true in motorsports. We experience our innovative strength on the race track, demonstrate courage in pursuing new avenues and delight car owners with sporting performance.”

He added, "In addition to our involvement in the Formula E World Championship, we are now taking the next big step forward in electric mobility. The concept study is our vision of all-electric customer motorsports. The Mission R embodies everything that makes Porsche strong: performance, design and sustainability."

On the charging front, the Mission R only needs a 15-minutes break to charge its battery from 5 to 80 percent - all possible thanks to the advanced 900-volt tech and Porsche Turbo Charging.

What else? The Mission R showcases a further development of Porsche Active Aerodynamics with Drag Reduction System on the rear wing (adjustable, two-section) and nose section (three louvres on each side air intakes).

As mentioned above, this particular Porsche focuses on sustainability including CO2 reduction as well. It is largely made of natural fibre reinforced plastic and is used for the side skirts, front spoiler lip, diffuser, interior door panels, seat, and rear bulkhead.

The cabin largely focuses on the driver and features an ergonomically placed display placed between the steering wheel and the controls. While this one shows relevant data during the race, the monitor above the steering displays images from the side mirror cameras and central rear-view mirror camera. Also, there is a camera to the right of the seat and several other cameras providing exciting sequences.

On the safety front, it features a carbon fibre composite material structure that provides high protection potential for the driver. The newly developed carbon roof structure is called ‘exoskeleton’ and combines a safety cage and roof skin.

So, what do you think about the Porsche Mission R Concept? Let us know in the comments.
