Meet BYD Xia, a plug-in hybrid Chinese MPV for large families

KUALA LUMPUR: After launching the all-electric M6 earlier this year, BYD has now come up with yet another MPV, called the Xia. The latest BYD model is a plug-in hybrid vehicle that hails from the brand’s Dynasty series.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much does BYD Xia cost?

The BYD Xia will be priced at CNY 300,000, which is approximately equal to RM 184,448.
  • What is the range of the BYD Xia?

The BYD Xia is expected to offer an all-electric range of 200 km.
  • Designed for large families, the BYD XIa measures 5145 mm in length, 1970 mm in width, and 1805 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 3045 mm. These dimensions make it a direct competitor of the Toyota Vellfire and the Lexus LM.

In terms of design, the new BYD MPV boasts the “Huama Longyan” design language. It features the brand’s signature Dragon Face design with a huge trapeze-shaped grille and elongated headlights with tapered lines. Giving the MPV a streamlined appearance is a flat roofline.

The side profile flaunts a striking wheel design and rear sliding doors offering easy access to the interior. At the rear, the BYD Xia incorporates a single, full-width LED taillight that spans across the entire width of the car, giving it a distinctive and futuristic look.

While the cabin design has yet to be officially revealed, the spy shots provide a glimpse of what to expect. As per that, the seven-seater BYD Xia features a 2 + 2 + 3 seating configuration with large display screens and a D-shaped steering wheel. The central console seems aligned with the brand’s recent models, including Song L DM-i and Qin L.

The MPV is powered by BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid powertrain that we can also find under the Seal U. It is likely to comprise a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine combined with an electric motor and a large Blade battery pack.

The plug-in hybrid exclusive body structure of the vehicle incorporates the DiSus intelligent damping body control system, which greatly improves chassis comfort.

Making the new BYD Xia an intelligent MPV is the DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system mated to the DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit. It is powered by a high-performance chip, delivering a smarter driving experience.

BYD revealed the Xia at the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show, signalling its entry into the Chinese market later this year. Following its domestic launch, the MPV is anticipated to roll out to other global markets.
