Meet Bugatti’s new hyper sports car, the Chiron Super Sport
KUALA LUMPUR: Two years back, Bugatti rolled out an ultimate version of the Chiron hypercar, called Super Sport 300+. It has a longtail body, a more potent engine, and a record-setting top speed of over 490 kmph. And, now the French automaker added one more member to the Chiron family that goes with the name Chiron Super Sport. At first glance, it looks the same as the 300+ but that’s not the case as subtle changes are there.
Like the 300+, the new Chiron Super Sport is powered by an 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine, capable of generating a whooping power of 1600 PS and a peak torque of 1600 Nm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that has been slightly altered for the new version. The hypercar has amazing acceleration numbers; it can hit the 100 kmph mark in just 2.4 seconds, 200 kmph in 5.8 seconds, and 200 kmph in 12.8 seconds. However, it is a tad slower than the 300+; the top speed is also limited to 440 kmph this time, keeping in mind ‘safety and homologation’.
Differentiating the two models is the chassis, the Chiron Super Sport gets a new chassis that gives the car firmer dampers and steering, and harder springs. Bugatti also equipped the model with newly built Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres that help in optimizing top speed. These can consistently roll at speeds of up to 490 kmph.
Design-wise, the Super Sport mimics the 300+ with large air intakes, vented front fenders, redesigned diffuser, and a stacked exhaust. Although, it dons a more road-friendly two-tone paintwork as compared to carbon-fibre shading on the 300+.
Unlike the exterior, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport interior looks much different from the earlier model. It gets carbon fibre trims with a mix of leather and polished aluminium on most surfaces.
“With the Chiron Super Sport, we are following our long-standing tradition of combining top speed with absolute luxury,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti. “
Bugatti will start the production of this ultra-exclusive offering in the coming months, however, it has not yet disclosed how many units will be rolled out. But it revealed the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport price tag that reads 3.2 million euros (approximately equal to RM 16 million).
