Mazda’s roadmap to get carbon-neutrality by 2035
KUALA LUMPUR: Back in 2019, Mazda unveiled its first production electric car, the MX-30, followed by the CX-30 EV last year. The latter was developed in cooperation with the brand’s joint venture with Chinese company Changan and is exclusive to the Chinese market as of now. While the Japanese automaker already has 3 more new EVs and 5 PHEVs in the pipeline, it recently announced a new deadline for its electric transition journey.

Let's have a look at Mazda’s roadmap for CO2 emissions reduction -
To achieve the set target, the company has identified three key pillars that will lead its way towards greener mobility, viz.
- Energy conservation: This will focus on energy conservation efforts involved in the production process, which releases large amounts of CO2. For instance, reduction of thermal energy via producing low-temperature curing paints and improving energy conversion efficiency by optimising processing tech.
- Shift to renewable energies: This pillar will also help the brand achieve growth in the local economy as it will expand the supply and demand of carbon-neutral electricity throughout the Chugoku region. The various forms of decarbonisation in Mazda’s consideration are low/carbon-free power generation in its plants and procurement from renewable energy suppliers.
- Introduction of carbon-neutral fuels for in-house transportation: Further helping Mazda achieve carbon-neutrality by the middle of the next decade will be its association with the Hiroshima Council for Automotive Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration for the promotion & use of the carbon-neutral fuels for its in-house shipment tasks.
Mazda will first implement these initiatives in Japan as a basis for an optimal approach for all the facilities located outside Japan.
As per the Japanese automaker, it is the prime responsibility of an automaker to do its part in limiting global warming by reducing carbon dioxide emitted through various processes of vehicle manufacturing. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
