KEY TAKEAWAYS
How much more expensive are the new models?
While the Mazda CX-3 and CX-30 ask for RM1,000 more, the Mazda3 Ignite Edition is asking for RM9,000 more than the Mazda3 2.0 Hatchback High PlusAre there any mechanical updates on the three models?
The upgrades only revolve around cosmetics and convenience. The engines remain the sameBefore you come to the conclusion that Mazda is out to rob you for no reason, please calm down, sit back, and allow us to explain why.
All three models here are new and have been updated for 2022 with not one or two, but numerous new features revolving around the cosmetics as well as convenience, making them more complete than before.
Mazda CX-3 - RM 131,929
Firstly we have the 2022 Mazda CX-3 which is now priced at RM 131,929. Compared to the outgoing version, the price of the CX-3 which is being imported from Japan, has increased by RM 1,200.
What you will get for the extra money is the newly added Qi wireless charger which now comes as standard. In addition to wireless charging, the CX-3 also gets a new eight-inch touch screen infotainment system which replaces the outgoing seven-inch display.
On top of being larger, the infotainment also supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay now, unlike the previous system which required a cable to connect to both.
Also new is the funky Platinum Quartz body colour which joins the existing Polymetal Grey, Machine Grey, Deep Crystal Blue, Snowflake White Pearl, as well as the popular Soul Red Crystal, bringing the total number of colour options to six.
Mechanically, there are no enhancements of any sorts as power still comes from the same SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 154 hp and 206 Nm of torque.
Paired to the engine is Mazda’s six-speed automatic gearbox which sends power exclusively to the front wheels.
2022 Mazda3 Ignite Edition – RM 164,679
Moving along, we have the 2022 Mazda3 which now includes a whole new variant called the Mazda3 Ignite Edition.
Based on the Mazda3 2.0L Hatchback High Plus, the Ignite Edition here asks for RM 9,000 more than the former with a price tag of RM 164,679 on the road minus insurance.
The new range-topping variant comes with unique black 18-inch wheels, black side mirrors, a surround-view camera, as well as Burgundy leather upholstery that is exclusive to the Ignite Edition.
Also new is the Platinum Quartz exterior colour option just like the CX-3.
Powertrain package remains untouched, comprising Mazda’s SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 162 hp and 213 Nm of torque, and a six-speed automatic transmission.
Besides the cosmetic enhancements and the surround-view camera, the list of features and specifications are identical to the Hatchback High Plus.
2022 Mazda CX-30 – From RM 145,759
Last but not the least, we have the new 2022 Mazda CX-30 which is now more expensive by RM 1,000 across the range. Two new “Ignite Edition” variants have been added to the line-up in both FWD and AWD configurations.
Similar to the Mazda3 Ignite Edition, the two new CX-30 variants get black 18-inch alloy wheels and side mirrors on the exterior, as well as Burgundy leather upholstery inside.
Also new is a 360-degree surround view monitor and the Platinum Quartz body colour. It is also worth mentioning here that the CX-30 2.0G High AWD variant has been discontinued.
With the introduction of the Ignite Edition variants, the 2022 Mazda CX-30 range stands as mentioned below:
- Mazda CX-30 2.0G Core – RM 145,759
- Mazda CX-30 2.0G High – RM 160,109
- Mazda CX-30 2.0G High Ignite Edition – RM 169,044
- Mazda CX-30 2.0G High AWD Ignition Edition – RM 180,689
- Mazda CX-30 1.8D High Diesel – RM 168,673
There are two engine options which are the same as before. The first is the SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which is the same as the two models above, while the other is the 1.8-litre diesel engine.
To recap, the Mazda3, CX-3, and the CX-30 are asking for a bit more money because they are now come with an improved infotainment system with a larger display which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree surround view camera, a new Platinum Quartz body colour, as well as updated USB ports.
The Mazda3 and the CX-3 on the other hand, get the new “Ignite Edition” variant similar to the CX-9 Ignite Edition which was launched last year.
All three models are also offered with a five-year or 500,000 km warranty, and a five-year or 100,000 km free maintenance program.
