Mazda to unveil CX-80 three-row SUV later this year

KUALA LUMPUR: After introducing the all-new CX-90 earlier this month, Mazda is now gearing up for the global premiere of its next SUV, the CX-80. According to the report published by Automotive News Europe, the company’s CEO has confirmed that the SUV will see the light of day before the end of the year.

For those who are not aware, in October 2021, Mazda revealed its plan to expand its SUV range by adding 5 new SUVs in a period of over two years. The list included the CX-50, CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90. Well, we have already seen the CX-50, CX-60, and CX-90 and now it’s the CX-80's turn to break the covers.

Here’s what to expect from the upcoming Mazda CX-80 -

• The SUV will slot between the CX-90 and CX-70 and underpin the brand’s new rear-wheel-drive platform
• The automaker will offer the SUV in straight-six engines (both petrol and diesel guises). A plug-in hybrid 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G four-cylinder producing a maximum power of 327 PS and a peak torque of 500 Nm could also be on the cards
• As for the transmission, the SUV is expected to get an eight-speed automatic transmission

• The Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) system, first introduced with the MX-5 and recently seen on the CX-90, Is also likely to be fitted to the upcoming SUV.
• The upcoming Mazda CX-80 will have three rows of seating with dimensions higher than the two-row CX-60. For context, the latter measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,870 mm
• Part of the brand’s new ‘Large Product Group’ SUVs, the tech-laden CX-80 is expected to rival the likes of the Hyundai Palisade and Toyota Kluger. It may also help Mazda steal the buyers of Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz

More details on the upcoming Mazda CX-80 are likely to roll out closer to the debut.
