Mazda to roll out 13 new electrified models by 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda recently announced its new strategies related to product and technology development based on its long-term vision i.e. “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030.” These strategies are in line with the brand’s target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and deals with the introduction of several electrified models based on new technologies.
As per the official press release, the Japanese marque will roll out five hybrid models, five plug-in hybrid models, and three EV models between 2022 and 2025. To be introduced in Japan, Europe, the US, China, and ASEAN markets, the upcoming Mazda cars will be based on its “SKYACTIV Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture.” It is dedicated to the company’s upcoming electric vehicles of various sizes and body styles. However, there is no info about the models’ names at this moment.
Between 2025 and 2030, the company will introduce more electrified vehicles based on the same platform. In this way, all Mazda cars are assumed to get some level of electrification by 2030.
Mazda also confirms that it is working on a human-centric autonomous driving system, dubbed as “Mazda Co-pilot Concept”. The system will monitor the driver’s condition at all times and upon detection of a sudden change in the driver’s physical condition, it will switch on the autonomous driving mode. This will stop the car at a safer location and place an emergency call. Initially, the Mazda Co-Pilot 1.0 will be introduced on “large products beginning from 2022.”
Included in the new developments is the next-generation Electric/Electronic Architecture (EEA) that intends to offer safer and stress-free connected services to the customers. As per Mazda, this will allow speedy processing of data from inside and outside a vehicle.
“The Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030 vision places the individual at the center of three areas. The planet, society, and humanity. We will continue to follow our human-centered development philosophy, which values the humanity and inherent potential of people, into a future where carbon neutrality and CASE (Connected cars, Autonomous driving, Shared/Services, and Electrification) are defining the industry,” says Mazda.
