Mazda SkyActiv-D Diesel Vehicles Confirmed for Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur: Diesel addition could be the biggest move of Mazda in the Malaysia in a long time, much for the delight of everyone. Bermaz Motor, the official dealer of Mazda has revealed that the company will be launching Mazda's range of SkyActiv-D diesel vehicles in Malaysia soon. The sales could be expected to start from next year. Earlier in February, this diesel engine has already marked a launch in Japan with its Mazda CX-3 B-segment crossover, which is bound to be an instant hit in the indigenous market.

Nothing much has been revealed about the models that would be inheriting this SkyActiv-D diesel engine, but you can expect it to include Mazda 2, CX-3, CX-5 and Mazda 6 as well. Earlier also, Bermaz Motor had been testing the diesel-powered Mazda 2 and Mazda 6 on Malaysian roads with the former also being featured in a fuel efficiency test from Bangkok to Penang.

Earlier, a brochure of Mazda CX-3 had been making the rounds on the internet which also had a mention of diesel engine alongside its petrol variant. So you can expect this model to enter the market with diesel engine before the end of this year. As for Mazda CX-5 diesel variant, you won't really have to wait much as it is already being assembled at Inokom's Kulim plant. Although this assembling is being done for the Thai market, but it wouldn't take much time for the Bermaz Motor to take these cars out of the factory and put them in Malaysian Showrooms. The decision to introduce the diesel engine in Malaysia could be a result of the recent introduction of Euro 5 diesel.

Currently, Mazda builds two types of SkyActiv-D engines. One is a 1.5-litre mill while other is a 2.2-litre twin turbo engine. The 1.5-litre engine which is used in Mazda 2 and Mazda CX-3 churns out a maximum power of 104 hp at 4000 rpm along with a peak torque of 270 Nm at 1600 to 2500 rpm. On the other hand, the bigger 2.2-litre twin-turbo engine is used in Mazda 6 and Mazda CX-5, and is available in 148 hp with 380 Nm and 173 hp with 420 Nm outputs.
