Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept joins the virtual car racing world
KUALA LUMPUR: The impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on the automotive industry can be seen in several forms ranging from production halts to the cancellation of big shows. Even the international motorsports arena is not saved from the aftermath of the pandemic disease, as all the racing activities of the real world have been suspended for an indefinite period. Well, the speed freaks and fans cannot let the racing fun go easily. So now, they are heading towards the virtual world of racing.
The increasing craze of virtual car racing also ignites the car manufacturers to come back in action. And consequently, Mazda just announced the release of its virtual race car, called Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept.
If you remember, Mazda has presented the RX-Vision concept car at the 2015 Tokyo auto show, sporting a low-slung coupe profile and striking long hood. The Japanese automaker has restyled the same concept for the racing enthusiasts to drive virtually in a popular driving simulation game "Gran Turismo Sport". It is developed in association with Japan-based video development studio Polyphony Digital, and it is exclusively available for Sony PlayStation 4 console.
“The RX-Vision GT3 Concept is our newest virtual race car in Sony Interactive Entertainment's PlayStation 4 driving simulation title, Gran Turismo Sport, and we hope that all players will enjoy taking it for a spin,” Mazda said, announcing the car’s digital arrival.
Mazda also stated that players using virtual Mazda vehicles such as RX-Vision GT3 Concept in the game would automatically get the right to participate in the FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championship, a virtual racing series to be held this year at several locations around the world.
Not only this, but the brand is also involved in the other racing events like Ricmotech iRacing Global Mazda MX-5 Cup series, which is hosted on the iRacing sim platform, and started earlier this month. It will be running through June 2 with the participation of actual MX-5 Cup drivers.
With the success of these events, we can expect more virtual race series to be held soon.
