Mazda MX-30 EV coming soon to Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: As per Maybank Investment Bank's 'Malaysia Automotive Budget wish-list research, Mazda Malaysia is planning to bring the MX-30 EV.
The arrival of the MX-30 is subjected to the attractiveness of the country's EV policy and the principal's approval
In case the Mazda EV arrives, what should we expect?
The MX-30 was showcased at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The EV was powered by an e-motor making a maximum power of 145 PS along with a peak torque of 271 Nm. The drive is sent to the front wheels via a single-speed reduction gear. A 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery powers the e-motor and it provides a range of 224 km.
The MX-30 supports both AC and DC charging. The former offers up to 6.6 kW via a Type 2 port and the latter 50 kW using a CCS port. The charging time is 36 minutes for the DC unit and three hours (from 20 to 80%) with the AC.
Apart from the all-electric powertrain, there is a 2.0-litre, 24-volt M Hybrid system that powers the MX-30 mild-hybrid version. Note the Maybank IB note specifically mentions 'BEV', so we have to see whether or not this version arrives.
When will the Mazda MX-30 arrive in Malaysia?
Nothing can be said for sure as back in early 2020, a report by AmInvestment Bank mentioned the EV arrival to happen in October 2020, but COVID-19 didn't let that happen. However, the MX-30s inclusion in Bermaz's plan gives us satisfaction.
