Mazda Koeru concept previews at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show
Kuala Lumpur/Frankfurt: The concept's name, Koeru, means to "exceed" or "go beyond" in the Japanese language and Mazda has come forward at the 2015 Frankfurt with the similar zeal with its all new legacy moniker as the Koeru crossover SUV concept. This addition to the Japanese automaker's hierarchy is followed by the minuscule Mazda2 hatchback, the compact CX-3 and the even more miniature MX-5 Miata. The Mazda Koeru concept is primed for its debut at this year's Frankfurt show. The Koeru Concept is speculated to be a sportier CX-5 of the future.
The Koeru concept's broad strokes is a precognition to the upcoming CX-9 full-sized crossover SUV, and from the looks of the car, it is looking almost road ready. This also makes more sense as the production version of the CX-9 is expected to bow in just a few months at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
According to the reporters, the Mazda's all-new concept rides on a 2,700 mm wheelbase, which matches that of the CX-5. It’s also 4,600 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,500 mm tall, compared to the CX-5’s 4,555 mm, 1,840 mm and 1,670 mm respectively.
The exteriors of the concept SUV revive the euphoria of a concept, its blacked-out A-pillars creates a "floating roof" illusion and help in creating a svelte appearance. Its wheelarches are massive, matched to equally large 21-inch wheels. However, the steeply sloped rear pillars raise doubt of its concept nature. Currently, the CX-9 boasts a seating capacity of 7, but it appears that there isn't much headroom beneath the Koeru's nearly horizontal rear glass. This makes us wonder if the Koeru concept, in fact, a herald of the Mazda CX-7's return to the automaker's stable sometime next year?
The Koeru concept appears to walk on the similar footprint of CX-9, but its body appears more close to the ground proffering a more athletic and compact appearance than the current model's upright silhouette.Mazda claims that the Koeru is built on a lightweight yet rigid body and chassis with its suspensions and steering more driver-centric. It’s also said to have aerodynamic additions that enhance vehicle stability.
The Koeru concept is based on the Japanese maker's latest iteration of the "Kodo: Soul of Motion" design language with its Mazda6-esque front end dominated by a large, heptagonal grille. The front fascia of the car is illuminated by the diamond shaped headlamps and daytime running lights which are LED illuminated along with the horizontal tail lights.
Although, there is no official mention yet about the powerhouse resting beneath the Koeru's hood, only that "the latest SkyActiv technologies ensure the model provides outstanding environmental performance without compromising on Mazda's renowned driving pleasure.
The Koeru Concept appears to be a sportier version of the CX-5 and more driver oriented car. Apart from its many characteristics, its wheelbase also points to it being based on the CX-5. This surmise the fact that, Mazda is all gearing up to take this concept to the production level.
