Mazda Iconic SP Concept revealed at Japan Mobility Show 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda has unveiled a new sports car concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, called the Iconic SP. It is an evolved iteration of the Vision Study concept previewed last year and touted as a new type of sports car, adapted to a new era.

The key highlights of the Mazda Iconic SP concept are as follows - 

• The car measures 4,180 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,150 mm in height and carries a wheelbase of 2,590 mm. It tips the scales at 1,450 kg and has a 50:50 weight distribution
• It is powered by Mazda's unique two-rotor rotary EV system, which is not only compact but also offers a high degree of layout flexibility 
• The ​​two-rotor rotary engine can burn various fuels such as hydrogen and generate electricity with carbon-neutral fuel. The maximum output is rated at 370 PS

• The batteries are charged with electricity derived from renewable energy, and offer a drive in a virtually carbon-neutral state.
• The car has a low centre of gravity that promises enhanced driving performance
• In terms of design, the Mazda Iconic SP looks quite similar to the RX-7. It features sleek pop-up LED headlights and is sprayed with a "VIOLA RED" tone as per the brand’s desire to "cherish the colour red" and its corporate philosophy of "enriching life-in-motion for those we serve” 

• The minimalist interior sports a clean dashboard and central console design with two displays, a conventional steering wheel with paddle shifters, and sliding switches on the gear selector
