Mazda CX-90 launch confirmed for Jan 2023; here’s what we know

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda has been teasing the CX-90 three-row SUV for quite some time now and with its second teaser out the car is confirmed to make a global debut in Jan 2023.

Once launched, the CX-90 will be a part of the carmaker’s Large Product group which already includes the CX-60 and in the future will see the introduction of the CX-70 and CX-80.

Upcoming Mazda CX-90: What do we know so far

• The CX-90 will be built on the automaker’s Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture with a rear-wheel drive and a front-engine longitudinal layout
• A CX-60-like horizontal tail light unit which appears quite roundish judging by the tailgate window
• At the launch, the SUV will be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, known as the ‘e-Skyactiv PHEV’ badge

• The car is expected to be powered by the same power setup as the CX-60. A Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol unit and e-motor (powered by a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery). Also, part of the setup is an 8-speed automatic transmission and an i-Activ all-wheel drive system
• The above-mentioned setup will churn out a maximum power output of 327 PS along with a peak torque of 500 Nm
• The 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery is expected to offer an electric-only range of 60 km at speeds of 100 kmph or less
• Also, the automaker has two inline-six engines at its disposal (3.0- and 3.3-litre), with turbocharged diesel & petrol, mild-hybrids, and Skyactiv-X variants

As for the Mazda CX-90’s availability, it will be the automaker's first PHEV model in the US and it will also make its way to the Australian market shortly.
