Mazda CX-60 first teaser released, global debut date confirmed

KUALA LUMPUR: Out of the five new SUVs announced last year, Mazda has already unveiled the CX-50 and now it is stepping towards another one i.e. Mazda CX-60. The Japanese automaker has dropped the first teaser image of this upcoming plug-in hybrid SUV along with the announcement of the debut date. Mazda will unleash the CX-60 after one month i.e. March 8, 2022.

In the teaser image, we can see the SUV’s LED headlight that features a distinctive lighting signature with daytime running lights divided into two parts, one lies within the cluster while the other extends to meet the front grille. The surroundings of the latter boast a glossy black trim. 

As compared to the brand’s current models, the lower bumper of the SUV looks more complex. All these visible cues match up with the CX-60 images leaked back in November, which confirmed that it is bigger than the CX-5 and has a more elegant design as compared to the CX-50.

With the first official glimpse of the CX-60, Mazda also announced that it will be the brand’s plug-in hybrid model. The Europe-spec SUV will be powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor combinedly producing a total output of over 300 hp while meeting stringent emissions regulations of the Old Continent.

It is also expected to underpin a newly developed rear-wheel-drive platform.

The CX-60 is a part of the brand’s Large Product group destined for Europe, Japan, and other markets. It will be joined by a larger, three-row SUV, the CX-80, later in the future.

The remaining two SUVs are the CX-70 and CX-90, which will be sold in the US, these models will have a wide-body type, with the former having two rows and the latter having three.
