Mazda CX-50 gets an upgrade in the US

KUALA LUMPUR: First introduced in 2021, the Mazda CX-50 has received an upgrade in the US market. The latest version of the brand’s rugged SUV gets a re-tuned suspension setup and a recalibrated electric power-assist steering system, all in line with Mazda’s goals of “encouraging more all-terrain adventures.”

The re-tuned suspension setup comprises new dampers that enhance the vehicle's handling and ride comfort, ensuring a smoother and more controlled driving experience. 

Mazda US offers the 2024 CX-50 in eight variants - S Select, S Preferred, S Premium, S Premium Plus, Turbo, Turbo Meridian Edition, Turbo Premium, and Turbo Premium Plus.

The S trims are powered by a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine generating a maximum power of 187 hp and a peak torque of 252 Nm. The Turbo variants, on the other hand, get the energy from a 2.5-litre turbocharged Skyactiv-G four-cylinder mill, which is good for making 256 hp and 433 Nm on premium 93 octane fuel)and 227 hp, and 420 Nm on regular 87 octane fuel.

As for the transmission, both mills feature a Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic unit, which comes mated to an i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system and Mazda Intelligent Drive Select or Mi-Drive with Sport and Off-Road modes.

Depending on the variant chosen, the 2024 Mazda CX-50 comes equipped with Adaptive LED front lighting, LED tail lights, 20-inch aluminium alloy wheels, a roof spoiler, power-adjustable side-view mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, tinted privacy glass, dual exhaust outlets, 10.25-inch centre display, dual-zone automatic climate system, leather steering wheel, and gear shifter, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, heated side-view mirrors, power boot lit, eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, and an impressive array of safety systems.

Pricing for the 2024 Mazda CX-50 starts at USD 30,300 (RM 137,979) and goes all the way up to USD 43,300 (RM 197,178).

Mazda CX-50 in Malaysia

Mazda does not offer the CX-50 rugged SUV in Malaysia. However, there is great anticipation for its close sibling, the CX-60, to be launched in the local market. The CX-60 recently made its debut in South ASEAN, with the Philippines being the first country in the region to welcome this model.
