Malaysia Debut of Kia Optima 'EcoPlugin' and 'EcoHybrid' Due in 2016
Kuala Lumpur: Kia Motors has recently announced that it will be launching a new Kia Optima plug-in hybrid variant (PHEV) in Malaysia in the second half of 2016, under the nameplate of Kia Optima EcoPlugin and EcoHybrid. Both models of the PHEV will be also available for the global markets.
The powertrain of Kia Optima EcoPlugin will feature a 156 hp/189 Nm 2.0L four-cylinder GDI (gasoline direct injection) engine in addition to a 68 hp electric motor. The total system output is estimated at 205 hp at 6,000 rpm. The torque figures are not yet revealed. The PHEV is expected to come with a 9.8 kWh lithium-polymer traction battery, which will take less than three hours to get fully recharged, based on a 240-volt power supply. As claimed by Kia Motors, Optima EcoPlugin will feature a full-electric driving range of 43 km with the mileage of 2.3 litres per 100 kilometers.

Kia Optima Ecohybrid will be powered by a 156 hp/189 Nm 2.0L petrol engine besides a 52 hp electric motor. The total system output is estimated at 195 hp at 6,000 rpm. The 1.62 kWh lithium-polymer traction battery is housed under the boot floor without disturbing the boot space. .
Both models of Kia Optima PHEV will come with a distinct styling and features including an active front radiator grille with silver brightwork and clean metallic blue finishing on the front grille surrounds, rear bumper elements, and wheel arches. Also, they will feature their respective 'EcoPlugin' and 'EcoHybrid' emblems, where required. Note: Kia Motors has NOT revealed any official pictures of Kia Optima EcoPlugin and EcoHybrid models.
