Malaysia Autoshow 2024: smart #3 EV breaks cover; now open for booking

KUALA LUMPUR: After the success of the #1 EV, smart Malaysia has introduced its second electric vehicle on Malaysian soil, the #3. The automaker will showcase the latest EV at the Malaysian Autoshow 2024, which will take place at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Selangor (MAEPS) from May 22 to May 26, 2024.

The automaker has also started accepting bookings for the upcoming smart #3, making Malaysia the first ASEAN country where bookings for the EV are underway.

"I am thrilled to welcome the smart #3 to our premium all-electric portfolio, now offering three exciting variants," said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of smart Malaysia. The lineup includes - BRABUS, Premium, and Pro. 

Interested folks can book the smart #3 at their nearest authorized smart dealership or through the Hello smart App. The first 333 customers who pre-book the EV will receive exclusive smart official merchandise worth up to RM 1,500.

"Our announcement of the #3 early-bird deal rewards customers who seize the opportunity to become among the first owners of the smart #3. As we gear up for the commencement of deliveries in Q3 this year, our 13 dealerships are fully prepared to provide exceptional service. Leading the charge in the region's EV market, we invite everyone to join us on this electrifying journey," he added.

Based on Geely's Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) platform, the smart #3 measures 4,400 mm in length, 1,844 mm in width, 1,556 mm in height, and carries a 2,785-mm long wheelbase. It features a striking exterior design with an Illuminated front grille, CyberSparksLED+ headlights with adaptive high-beam assist, and a Panoramic Halo Roof.  

The Premium trim comes equipped with a rear-mounted single motor generating 200 kW of maximum and 343 Nm of peak torque. The motor is fed a 66kWh NCM battery pack, delivering a WLTP Range of 455 km.

The smart #3 BRABUS, on the other hand, is powered by a dual-motor intelligent AWD powertrain tuned to generate 315 kW and 543 Nm of torque. It promises an impressive 0-100 kmph acceleration time, achieving a best-in-class Rocket Launch Mode in just 3.7 seconds.  The performance-focused trim cruises up to 415 km on a single charge.

The automaker confirmed that BRABUS and Premium trims support the best-in-class 22kWh AC charger with the capability to juice up the battery from 10% to 80% in less than three hours. 

As for safety, the upcoming smart EV incorporates cutting-edge technology, with 23 high-precision sensors supporting 21 ADAS functions as standard.
