Malaysia Autoshow 2024: GAC Aion Y Plus launched in Malaysia - RM 119,800
KUALA LUMPUR: WTC Automotif (WTCA) has introduced the GAC Aion Y Plus, a fully electric vehicle, at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. Unlike WTCA’s other SUV, the GAC GS3 Emzoom, the Aion Y Plus is part of GAC’s Aion sub-brand under the Tan Chong Group umbrella.

The Aion Y Plus is styled like an SUV but resembles an MPV. It measures 4,535 mm in length and 1,870 mm in width. Design highlights include 'Angel’s Wing' headlights with seven horizontal light bars. The Aion Y Plus is marketed as a youthful vehicle, offering a choice of seven exterior colours and featuring 17-inch wheels with H/T SUV tyres.
Inside, the long wheelbase and flat floor provide ample space, with fully reclinable front seats that can transform the cabin into a makeshift double bed. In standard seating mode, rear passengers enjoy up to 1,022 mm of legroom, claimed to be the most generous in the industry.
The tech-rich cabin of the EV is equipped with upmarket amenities, catering to urban lifestyle needs. Key highlights include - a 10.25-inch instrument panel, a 14.6-inch infotainment support Apple CarPlay connectivity, keyless entry, automatic climate control with rear vents and built-in PM2.5 air filter, and 6-way power adjustable driver seat.
The Premium trim exclusively comes loaded with features like driver seat ventilation, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and 32-colour ambient lighting system with a music mode.
The Aion Y Plus is powered by an in-house 'Magazine' lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 63.2 kWh, delivering a range of 490 km on the NEDC cycle, or 430 km on the more realistic WLTP cycle. It features a single front motor producing 204 hp and 225 Nm of torque. Although a Long Range version with a 68.3 kWh battery and 550 km range exists, only the standard range variant is available in Malaysia, which still offers a substantial range difference.
The Chinese EV's standard safety kit comprises six airbags, an anti-lock braking system, vehicle dynamic control, hill hold control, a 360-degree view monitor, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
With the premium version, the automaker also offers a suite of advanced driver assistance systems enabling Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities. The pack includes - adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function and intelligent cruise assist, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and traffic jam assist.
On the purchase of the Aion Y Plus, GAC Malaysia offers an 8-year/160,000 km base vehicle warranty and an 8-year/200.000 km EV battery, drive motor, and electric control unit warranty.
