Malaysia Autoshow 2019 - Will it be the debut stage for Proton X50 ?

On the 11th of April 2019, Malaysia Autoshow will open its gates for the visitors. Considered as one of the biggest auto shows in the country, this one has a reputation to benefit both the auto brands and buyers equally. Like in the previous years, approximately 1000 plus bookings were made at the show with the total sales volume touching RM 53 million mark. As for the onlookers, the show has a plethora of offings starting from new car launches, 4x4 off-road shows, modified cars, special offers, and a chance to win cars like Bezza and Myvi.

With a total of 32 OEMs registered for participation, we are expecting around 100 cars on display at the show. Also, this wide showcasing will include some brand-new, never seen before vehicles making their debut. And are we hope and pray the Malaysia Autoshow 2019 to be the debut stage for the Proton X50.

Now, for those who are thinking, ‘it’s not X50, rather it is the X70’, we’ll like to update your knowledge. Recently, Proton Malaysia registered several trademarks for its upcoming car, and one of the names was X50. Going by the company’s new alpha-numeric model naming scheme, the X50 seems a somewhat promising option. Other options in the trademark list included X500, X700, V50, V500, V70, and V700.

So, the question is will Proton bring is new compact SUV to the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2019? Well, we are not sure, nor the company or any of close official source have revealed anything in this regard. However, it would be great to see a new Proton on the stage, one that is expected to compete against the Perodua Aruz. Also, recently a camouflaged Geely Binyue was spotted doing test rounds in Malaysia, this further puts an approval stamp on our though as this is the same car on which the X50 is based. Also, since the Proton-Geely partnership, the former has pledged to launch one new car are each year until 2021. Therefore, with X70 launched in 2018, the arrival of a new Proton car in 2019 is due, and Malaysia Autoshow seems like the best launching pad a vehicle can get. However, with preparation still in the initial phase, there might only be an official announcement about the new car and not a showcasing.

With only a few hours left, the auto show will reveal what Proton fleet has in stock - all old stuff or a new shiny model accompanying the brand's lineup.
