MAA - Sales figure rises in July 2015, still lower than 2014

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian auto sales figures have been roller coaster ride lately. Either it is the implementation of GST or the rise in fuel prices. But recently, The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released a figure of overall vehicle production and sales in the month of July 2015. According to the report, a total of 58,646 units were sold last month including the passenger and commercial vehicles. It states that the figures represent a 2.1% or 1,209 units hike than in June this year.
Although, it's a positive improvement from past month, but the depression arises when we see that total sales figure for July 2015, which is 2.7% or 1,623 units less than what the industry achieved in the same month last year.
The numbers are truly depressing for the automakers. The same report tells that a total of 380,830 vehicles has been sold between January and July 2015, which is less compared to 393,425 units in the same period last year. That surmise to a considerable 3.2% or 12,595 unit drops year-on-year.
Last month also the MAA had revised downwards its TIV forecast for 2015, which originally stated 680,000 to 670,000 units. But looking at these figures, one realizes that 670k is still 0.5% higher than the 2014 TIV of 666,465. Well, it can be achieved or not depends upon the customer interests and revise in government policies, which remains to be seen towards the end of this year.

Despite being a biotech professional, Sanchit Agarwal's daydreams of driving a Ferrari and chasing cars in a Grand Prix made him jump into automotive journalism. His childhood craving for the cars started with Hot wheels toys which led him to create pseudo cars on his own. When people loved playing outdoor sports, Sanchit was stuck to his racing video games hidden in a closet. The torque of his creative writing coupled with his passion for moving machines pushed him into Carbay's garage. Sanchit also wonders's, why is he writing this as a third person.
