Lotus Evija electric hypercar: All you need to know
To the world, the Lotus Evija is not only known as the brand's first electric hypercar but also as the most powerful production car ever built. While many rivals are loaded with hybrid powertrains, the Evija pushes the boundaries of modern hypercar technology as a fully electric model and comes with an ultrafast charging setup.
The car made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood SpeedWeek event last year and like other hypercars in the world, the production of this electric sensation is also limited, which is only 130 units forever. Well, the good part is that it is now open for orders in the local market. So, in today’s guide, we bring all the details about the 2021 Lotus Evija you need to know.
Lotus Evija Exterior
The exterior design of the Evija is inspired by aeronautics and nature. It is said to be the first road car that has laser lights for the main as well as dipped beams. It gets sharp design lines and muscular haunches all around and there is a curved hood that looks similar to the past Lotus racing cars. With an extremely low ride height of 4.1 inches, the Evija looks absolutely stunning.

Getting inside the exciting cabin, here the Evija gets Alcantara-padded seats with 3-point seatbelts and a number of carbon fibre surfaces here and there. There is an exclusive steering wheel, whose design is inspired by LMP and Formula 1. It carries a unique shape with several integrated controls and two drive modes.
The dashboard has a single digital display screen showing all important information to the rider, including driving mode, battery status, remaining charge, and so on. The list of hi-tech goodies also includes climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, over-the-air software updates, and a chronograph for recording lap times. The Evija owners can also connect their cars with a smartphone app that lets them monitor the battery status, and driving range, and access air conditioning remotely.
Lotus Evija Performance and Handling
Now, coming to the hypercar’s most important component i.e. the powertrain setup. It has a total of four electric motors, and as per the automaker, they together generate a maximum power of 2000 PS with a peak torque of 1700 Nm. With this, the hypercar can do a sprint of 0-100 kmph in less than three seconds, 0 to 200 kmph in less than six seconds, while 0 to 300 kmph is possible in not more than nine seconds. The top speed of the hypercar is rated at 320 kmph.
On the suspension front, the Evija has a motorsport-derived setup that offers outstanding handling. It comprises three adaptive spool-valve dampers on both axles enabling extreme track performance as well as on-road reassurance. The car rolls on 20- and 21-inch magnesium front and rear wheels, wrapped in Pirelli Trofeo R tyres. Its advanced braking setup carries carbon-ceramic discs at both ends.
Lotus Evija Charging and Range
The Evija is fitted with advanced technology which is meant to make the battery charging as quick as getting a top-up at the gas station. With this tech, the electric hypercar takes only 12 minutes for an 80% charge, while for a full charge, the customer needs to wait a mere 18 minutes. Isn't it amazing? Well, as far as the range is concerned, the Lotus Evija can travel more than 400 km on a single charge.
In the Malaysian market, the all-new Lotus Evija is likely to have a hefty price tag of around RM 16 million.
