Last Porsche 911 Speedster auction proceeds to help fight COVID-19
KUALA LUMPUR: The very last unit of 911 Speedster, the 911-gen Porsche 911, will be sold to the highest bidder through RM Sotheby’s online booking platform. The Porsche 911 Speedster is one of 1,948 units produced, and it is the last ever 911 model to pass down the production line at the automaker’s Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen factory.
The last 911 Speedster is unregistered, has clocked only 32 km, and is finished in GT Silver Metallic paint. Under its hood rests a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six engine that churns out 502 hp and 470 Nm with drive sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. With the given power, the car can reach from 0 to 96 kmph in just 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 309 kmph.
The 911 Speedster for auction will also feature the Heritage Design package, and to seal the deal further, the company will provide a letter of authenticity confirming the chassis number of the car is indeed of the last 911 model.
It will also come with a bespoke 911 Speedster Heritage Design Chronograph by Porsche Design. It features the same strap made in the cognac leather as the car’s cabin. Also, a silver winding rotor matches the car’s wheel. It is a COCS-certified limited edition chronograph featuring the car’s chassis number and flyback function.
Now, the car is bound for the US, but since the money rules, RM Sotheby’s said, “any potential export of this car outside of the United States will be the sole responsibility of the winning bidder.”
What does the highest bidder get?
- First, the bidder along with the spouse will be invited for the Porsche AG Weissach development headquarters behind the scene tour on 1:1 basis
- There will be a track session (not in the auction car, of course)
- The bidder will also get a one-of-a-kind book chronicling the assembly and completion of the last 991 Speedster (including images and original sketch from the car’s design team)
The car will be handed over to the bidder at a dedicated event in the US by the president and CEO of Porsche Car North America, Klaus Zellmer. All the proceeds excluding taxes and fees will be donated to United Way Worldwide COVID-19 Funds in the US.
Walliser said, “Not only does this mark the end of what, for me, was a special era but it’s especially rewarding that the last car to reach the end of the line should be the ultimate – the Speedster combined everything we learned and is the 991 in its purest form. I hope this really unique car can make a big difference to those who need help right now – and that the fortunate buyer enjoys it and drives it as we always intended.”
