Land Rover Defender 2 Millionth Model Auctioned for RM2.59 Million
Kuala Lumpur: Jaguar Land Rover has recently auctioned its unique 2 millionth defender for RM 2,585,000 ( £400,000) at an eminent charity auction at Bonhams. The iconic off-roader was put on display at the same venue for a few days before the auction, which was announced through JLR's official "London Takeover Video. " The 2 millionth defender has been manufactured by a team of all-time defender fans, including Land Rover ambassador Bear Grylls, Virginia McKenna OBE, and Stephen and Nick Wilks, sons of the founders of Land Rover. All proceeds from the charity auction of Defender 2,000,000th will be donated to the humanitarian and conservation partners of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) - the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Born Free Foundation.
While addressing the charity auction of the Defender 2,000,000th, MD of Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) Special Operations, John Edwards, said that earlier, this year, the company had an opportunity to turn a milestone Land Rover into a true collector’s car - that's why he has built something very unique and very special with the help of his SVO team – the 2 millionth Land Rover Defender. “Tonight’s sale will go down as part of our history. Of course, Defender has a future and will live on in its own right. But the original Series Land Rovers and Defenders will also continue to thrive through our Jaguar Land Rover Heritage division,” he added.
The exterior of the unique 2 millionth Land Rover Defender flaunts bespoke details, including an engrave map of Red Wharf Bay - the place where the design of the original Land Rover Defender was drawn in the sand, is engraved into the aluminium fender of the iconic off-roader. The bespoke 2 millionth defender has also got a special ‘No. 2,000,000’ badge at its rear. Inside, there are leather seats with ‘Red Wharf Bay’ graphics besides the No. 2,000,000’ logos stitched on the headrests. The driver seat of the 2 millionth defender also features a bespoke aluminium plaque that is signed by the entire team of the lifelong fans of the defender who helped to build the off-roader.
The most remarkable exterior feature of the 2 millionth Land Rover Defender is its bespoke S90 HUE registration plates as a fitting tribute the first ever pre-production Land Rover Defender, which featured the ‘HUE 166’ registration number.
Before we wrap up, it is worth to mention that a limited edition Land Rover Defender was launched in Malaysia earlier in November, this year, as a tribute to the classic Land Rover Defender, which is set to cease production, by the end of this year. The next-generation Defender is said to be launched in 2018.
