Koenigsegg Gemera is now available in Thailand at a whooping RM 14.7 million tag

KUALA LUMPUR: The Swedish carmaker Koenigsegg, renowned for making some of the fastest and priciest hypercars around the world, rolled out its first four-seater model this year in March, called Koenigsegg Gemera. It is the first of a new breed, the brand’s first production car powered by a three-cylinder engine in its history, and recently the hypercar made its launch debut in Thailand.

Along with accommodating four adults comfortably, the Gemera also provides enough space to carry luggage. It is actually a hybrid car that “outperforms most two-seat megacars, both combustion, and electric,”  according to its creators.

Christian von Koenigsegg, founder, CEO, and ideologist of Koenigsegg explains. “The Gemera is a completely new category of car where extreme mega cars meet a spacious interior and ultimate environmental consciousness. We call it a Mega-GT.”

With a shape inspired by an egg, the Gemera has a broad front fascia with wide intake ducts and narrow LED headlights. The KATSAD (Koenigsegg Automated Twisted Synchro Helix Actuation Doors) door design, the brand’s signature mechanism has been adapted for the four-seater as well. The massive doors open up the complete side profile of the car for entry and exit without adjusting the seats at all. At the back, there is an integrated spoiler and a striking diffuser that aid the aerodynamics, while the Akrapovic top-exit exhausts generate a unique sound.

Unlike other GT cars, Koenigsegg’s mega GT provides 2+2 seating, for which it claims that four occupants of 6 feet 5 inches can easily fit without adjusting the front seats. It's an incredible move.

The luxury cabin is donned with the finest materials paired with hi-tech creature comforts. These include entertainment screens for the front as well as rear, tri-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone chargers, Wi-Fi connection, Apple CarPlay, electric seats, a premium audio system with 11 speakers, and eight cupholders, four heated and four cooled.

Under its sleek skin lies a 2.0-litre, three-cylinder twin-turbo engine supported by three electric motors, two for rear wheels, and one for the front axle connected directly to the engine’s crankshaft. The system generates a combined output of 1,700 horsepower and peak torque of 3,500 Nm, enough to propel the four-seat Gemera from 0 to 100 kmph in 1.9 seconds. The top speed is pegged at 400 kmph.

An 800-Volt battery pack allows up to 50 km of total electric driving, while the overall range of the hypercar is estimated at 1000 km.

Well, for this blend of people-hauling comfort and outright performance, Thailand customers need to shell out an amount of 111,098,385 baht (equal to RM 14.7 million), including Thailand’s import tax on CBU units. The global production is limited to 300 units.
