KLIMS 2024: GAC Aion ES electric sedan launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Among several exciting new models, captivating enthusiasts at the ongoing 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show is the GAC Aion ES. This all-electric sedan is the second Aion model to debut in Malaysia, following the Y Plus electric SUV.

WTC Automotif (WTCA), the official distributor of the GAC and Aion vehicles in Malaysia, offers the Aion ES in a sole variant, priced at RM 106,800. This price point makes the Aion EV the cheapest electric sedan in the local market.

Dimensions

Built on Aion’s AEP 2.0 platform, the ES measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,545 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. The boot capacity is estimated at 450 litres

Drivetrain, range, and charging

The Aion ES is powered by a single front-mounted electric motor that generates a maximum power of 136 PS and a peak torque of 225 Nm. It runs from zero to 100 kmph in 12.1 seconds and hits a top speed of 150 kmph.

Feeding the motor is a 55.2 kWh LFP battery that offers a driving range of 364 km (on the WLTC cycle). As for charging, the EV supports both AC and DC charging. With the help of a 6.6kW AC on-board charger, the battery juices up in 11 hours while a 60kW DC unit provides 30-80% SoC in just minutes.

Exterior

The sedan has a minimalist exterior with automatic LED headlights featuring a “flowing arc” design. These come with follow-me-home and height adjustment features along with LED daytime running lights. The side profile incorporates 17-inch alloys while the rear is accentuated by “Laser Blade” LED full-width tail lights.

Other key exterior highlights include front and rear LED fog lamps, LED turn indicators, an electric open tailgate, and electric rear view mirrors.

The cabin has a black theme with a minimalist layout and the following creature comforts -

Safety 

The safety pack comprises 2 SRS airbags, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, hill hold control, an electronic stability program, a hydraulic brake assist, parking sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Colours

The GAC Aion ES colour palette comprises three options - Glamour Black, Holographic Silver, and Pure White.

Warranty and buyer package

The GAC Aion ES warranty package and buyer package includes -

• 8-year/160,000 km vehicle warranty
• 8-year/200,000 km EV battery and drive system warranty
• A complimentary 7 kW AC home wall box charger worth RM 3,500 (as part of the launch promo)

The new GAC Aion ES is part of WTCA's plans to expand the GAC and Aion lineups in Malaysia over the next five years. The initiative aims to offer internal combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles to meet the different needs of customers.
