KLIMS 2024: All-new Kia Sportage revealed — 4 variants, est. price RM 150k

KUALA LUMPUR: Kia, one of the several participating brands at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show, steals the limelight with the long-awaited Sportage SUV. Currently in its fifth generation, the new Sportage is offered as a CKD model estimatedly priced at RM 150,000.

The Kia Sportage is a C-segment SUV featuring a bold design, advanced technology, and improved performance. It squares up against the Proton X70, Honda CR-V, and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro in the local market.

Let’s know the new Kia Sportage in detail, starting with the exterior.

Exterior

The bold and modern Kia Sportage underpins the brand’s “Opposites United” design philosophy. The front boasts the signature Tiger Nose design with a black grille and futuristic LED DRLs, while the side profile incorporates sharp lines and a chrome beltline. At the rear, the SUV features broad shoulders, fastback styling, and sharp rear lamps, adding to its striking and confident road presence. 

Dimensions 

The all-new Sportage has a length of 4,660 mm, a width of 1,865 mm, a height of 1,660 mm and spans a compact wheelbase of 2,755 mm. With a thoughtful design, the SUV offers a class-leading legroom, headroom, and luggage capacity, claims Kia. The boot capacity measures 637 litres.

Engine 

Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor of the Kia cars, offers the Sportage in four variants - 2.0L, 2.0L HIGH, 1.6T HIGH and 1.6T HIGH AWD. The former two are powered by a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four engine tuned to make 156 horsepower and 192 of torque. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 1.6T trims, on the other hand, run on 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four unit good for making 177 hp and 265 Nm. With this mill, the customers get a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. 

Interior

The interior has a welcoming vibe with a driver-focused layout, premium materials, and advanced technology. Depending on the selected variant, the equipment kit comprises -

• 4.2-inch colour TFT-LED instrument cluster (12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with higher variants)
• 8-inch infotainment system (12.3-inch infotainment system with higher variants)

The well-equipped Sportage comes packed with a range of standard and advanced safety features. Standard kit includes - 6 SRS airbags, Anti-Locking Braking System, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-start Assist Control, Downhill Brake Control, and Rear Occupant Alert.
