Here’s a first look at Kia’s new electric vehicle, the EV6
KUALA LUMPUR: Ahead of the global debut later this month, Kia previewed the images of its first dedicated all-electric car, dubbed as the ‘EV6’. The model underpins the brand’s new Electric-Global Modular Platform and will kickstart its ‘Plan-S’ strategy that has seven all-electric vehicles in line. The EV6 is also the first Kia model to follow the automaker’s new ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy.
The said philosophy sets the future base for Kia's upcoming cars. It comprises five basic principles - Bold for Nature, Joy for Reason, Power to Progres, Technology for Life, and Tension for Serenity. Incorporating these principles, the Kia EV6 looks smart with plenty of sharp lines and creases altogether creating a good first impression.
“EV6, as the first dedicated Kia EV, is a showcase of human-centered, progressive design and electrified power. We strongly believe EV6 is a compelling and relevant model for the new EV market,” said Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Design Center. “With EV6 we aimed to create a distinctive, impactful design by using a combination of sophisticated, high-tech features on pure and rich volumes, while providing a unique space as a futuristic EV.”
Upfront, we can see a new ‘Digital Tiger Nose’ featuring a simple and sleek design; it is flanked by jazzy LED headlamps and Audi-like daytime running lights. The design of the lamps has a ‘sequential’ dynamic light pattern. On the sides, it showcases a crossover-inspired design aesthetic, which looks modern, sleek, and aerodynamic. A character line running through the bottom of the car’s doors curves upwards towards the rear wheel arches, which elongates the profile of the car. The rear displays a sloping rear C-pillar with an integrated black glossy insert, a prominent roof spoiler, and a unique rear light cluster.
Moving inside, here a more streamlined and minimalist cabin welcomes you, where the instrument cluster and infotainment screen are combined for a wide display on top of the dash. The dashboard looks simple with full-width air vents and has positioned low. Hyundai says that slim and lightweight seats are made up of robust fabrics using recycled plastics.
About the Kia EV6 technical specifications, the automaker has not revealed anything but we are expecting that it would be the same as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which recently made its global debut.
The Kia EV6 world premiere is slated for March 2021 during a special online event.
