The Kia EV5 represents the brand’s strategy to establish global leadership in electrification. It boasts the ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, featuring a new Digital Tiger Face and a futuristic cabin. In terms of styling, the Kia EV5 mimics the EV9 as it is inspired by the same ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. The concept SUV features a new form of Digital Tiger Face which pays a tribute to the famous Kia Tiger Nose grille. The reworked fascia gels nicely with Kia’s Star Map signature lighting technology and forms a constellation connecting stars to a clean face.
Taking the EV’s styling to the next level is a flowing pattern of digital lighting, striking 21-inch wheels, sculpted lines, and an aerodynamic-enhancing roof spoiler.
Stepping inside, here the things are highly futuristic with the ‘Bold for Nature’ design pillar being a key influencing factor. Touted as a ‘space of coexistence,’ the cabin offers generous space where “people and technology can come together in harmony”. Among the key highlights are -
- A completely flat floor
- A large, wide panoramic display
- Innovative swivel seats that enable occupants to sit in tranquility
- A wide, full-length panoramic sunroof, which also acts as solar panels
- Advanced bridge lighting technology that can be adjusted as per the needs and moods of the occupants
- A wide suite of sustainable materials, including plant-based materials like seaweed extract and upcycled PET bottles on the seats, doors, dashboard, and headliner
While the automaker remained tight-lipped on the EV5 specifications, it’s likely to underpin the same 800V E-GMP platform as other new Kia and Hyundai models.
“The Kia Concept EV5 takes influence from the contrast and complementarity of natural landscapes and man-made architecture. It is designed to inspire our customers on every journey, while providing sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions. Created for those who seek inventive new ideas, the SUV brings together emotional form language with innovative, user-focused interior architecture,” explained Karim Habib, Executive Vice President, and Head of Kia Global Design Center.
