Kia EV3 teased ahead of May 23 unveiling

KUALA LUMPUR: Kia continues to accelerate its electric vehicle development, building on the success of its striking EV6 and the expansive, seven-seater EV9.

The latest addition to their lineup, is the Kia EV3, a compact SUV designed to challenge competitors like the Volvo Ex30. Kia describes the EV3 as the epitome of an electric compact SUV where technology, practicality, and style converge.

This new model underscores Kia's commitment to democratizing electric mobility, making it more accessible, convenient, and dependable for everyone.

The EV3, set to replace the Soul EV, aims to at least match or surpass its predecessor's 64kWh battery capacity and 450-km range. Like many modern EVs, the EV3 will offer options for single or dual motors. Kia has also announced that high-performance 'GT' variants will accompany the standard EV3 range in showrooms, as part of its commitment to offering high-performance versions across all its new dedicated electric models.

Judging by the teaser photos just released, Kia is promising on its  assurance that the production version of the EV3 will maintain a strong resemblance to its concept, both inside and out. And if Kia’s latest design trends are any indication, the EV3 is expected to inherit the appealing aesthetics characteristic of its family lineage.

The EV3, Kia's newest compact SUV,  should be based on a scaled-down version of the Hyundai and Kia electric-car platform. This platform utilizes a 400-volt architecture, in contrast to the 800 volts found in larger models like the Kia EV6 and EV9, as a measure to reduce costs.

According to Drive.com, the EV3 is slated for production in a Slovakian factory that currently manufactures the Ceed small hatch for the European market, among other international locations such as South Korea, China and possibly Thailand.

Recent teaser photos reveal that the final design of the EV3 will closely resemble the concept version that was unveiled in South Korea towards the end of last year.

The 2025 Kia EV3 is set to make its debut on May 23, 2024, at 8:00 PM AEST (7:00 PM South Korean time).
