JPJ and APAD come forward to help flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia over the weekend witnessed the worst floods in several decades. While Sri Muda in Shah Alam is said to be the worst-hit area, some parts of KV were underwater, causing heavy property damage. The situation is worse on the East Coast, as entire towns went underwater.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How does JPJ plans to help flood victims?

Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong confirmed that flood victims will not pay any fees related to replacement of lost or damaged documents, including road tax, Vehicle Ownership Certificate, or driving license.
  • How will APAD help car owners affected by flood?

The land public transport agency has announced a waiver of charges for duplicate printing and additional changes for licenses.
  • Along with other things, the sight of cars engulfed in mud makes us sad. However, free replacement of documents comes as a small consolation to the affected car owners.

Yes, that’s right. JPJ has waived the fees for document replacement if they were damaged or lost in the flood. So, if your vehicle ownership certificate, road tax, or driving license needs replacement head to JPJ.

Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong confirmed that flood victims will not pay any fees related to replacement of lost or damaged documents, including road tax, Vehicle Ownership Certificate, or driving license.

The required instructions have been passed on to the relevant authorities, however, in order to benefit from the exemption, affected individuals need to lodge a police report of the document lost/damaged before seeking replacement from JPJ.

It has also been communicated by the Transport Minister that there is no window period for affected individuals to seek this exemption. So, if you are a victim, take your time and get the replacement documents as and when it suits you.

Moving on, following the footsteps of JPJ, APAD has also come forward to help flood victims.

The land public transport agency has announced a waiver of charges for duplicate printing and additional changes for licenses. Also, in this case too, those applying for fresh papers from APAD need to submit a police report confirming the loss of documents.

However, unlike JPJ, APAD special exemption comes with a cap, i.e., March 31,2021.
