Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) to bring Uniformed Parking System in April, 2016
Kuala Lumpur: To overcome the problem of huge traffic jams in Johar Bahru city centre, Johar Bahru City Council (MBJB) in collaboration with Johor Bahru Central Municipal Council (MPJBT) and Kulai Municipal Council (MPK) is bringing a uniformed parking system in April 2016. The three councils have plans to increase pedestrian connectivity, create multi-storey parking facilities and implement time-limit zones to ease down the congestion of traffic in the city centre. The announcement was made by Johor Bahru Mayor, A. Rahim Nin, who was speaking to reporters after the local council's town hall meeting, yesterday.
Rahim told reporters that MBJB has plans to increase the parking rate at certain zones to prevent motorists from parking there in order to avoid huge traffic jams. He also made it clear that the implementation of the uniformed parking system has not yet finalised because it needs cooperation with other two other local authorities and they first have to study the options and technical problems that may come up.
While explaining one of the contributing factors in the shortage of parking spots, he revealed that the MBJB has instructed Fajar-Able not to print new coupons because it will not be outsourcing the management of parking facilities and services to Fajar-Able and Metro Parking (M) Sdn Bhd.
"Motorists will not be able to redeem the coupons, so they have to use all the paid coupons within the next three months. For those who have used up all the coupons before March 30, temporary coupons are made available at respective councils until the new coupons are ready,” he added.
