Japan gets a Toyota Prius PHEV variant; check the full details

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota introduced the all-new Prius earlier this year and now the automaker has introduced a brand new variant of the car in Japan.

The new Toyota Prius variant features a plug-in-hybrid powertrain and retails at a starting price of 4.6 million yen (approximately RM 151k). Thus, making the Prius PHEV the most expensive model.

Let us get to know the 2023 Toyota Prius PHEV in detail -

• The new Prius trim comes with a new front-wheel drivetrain
• The EV generates a combined system output of 223 hp
• On the performance side, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.7 secs
• Under the hood rests a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre mill making a maximum power of 151 hp along with a peak torque of 188 Nm
• The engine is paired with a powerful e-motor making 163 hp and 208 Nm

• The power is sent to wheels via an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission
• The electric motor is fueled by a 13.6 kWh battery
• The EV offers a pure electric range of 87 km and up to 105 km when fitted with 19-inch and 17-inch wheels
• The car’s fuel efficiency figures are rated at 26 kmpl and 30.1 kmpl with 19-inch and 17-inch wheel options respectively
• Charging the car is 3.2 kW AC charging setup that charges the battery fully in 4.5 hours

• The car can even serve as an external power source with up to 1,500 watts of power
• The powertrain can supply electricity for about 5 days with a full tank of gas and a 100% charged battery
• The Prius PHEV comes with a solar charging system (on its roof); the system not only charges the car when parked but also its systems and electronics
