As PHEVs become an increasingly interesting proposition due to concerns related to raising fuel prices, JAECOO found the preview event valuable for engaging with attendees on the advantages of plug-in hybrids, emphasizing their benefits over conventional hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).

JAECOO Malaysia Executive Vice President Leo Chen highlighted the company’s dedication to advancing greener automotive solutions. “JAECOO is committed to leading the transition to cleaner, more efficient automotive solutions by offering innovative technology that meets the needs of the modern driver. Our PHEVs represent the next step in our journey toward a sustainable future,” Chen shared.

JAECOO Malaysia Vice President, Emily Lek, reinforced the brand’s focus on consumer education, adding, “Hand in hand with delivering best-in-class vehicles, we also believe in helping drivers in the market stay informed about the distinct advantages of electric and hybrid engines. This will greatly help drivers make informed decisions in choosing the most suitable vehicle based on their individual driving needs and styles.”

    The Advantages of PHEV Technology

The J7 PHEV offers multiple advantages that set it apart from traditional HEVs, including a longer range on electric power alone, home-charging capabilities, dual power performance, reduced fuel dependence for shorter trips, and a lower environmental impact.

According to JAECOO,  the J7 PHEV can travel up to 88 kilometers purely on electric power, based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) – a feature that makes it ideal for urban drivers who prefer zero-emission, fuel-free daily commutes.

Unlike HEVs, which recharge only through regenerative braking or engine power, PHEVs like the J7 offer users the added convenience of home charging, letting owners wake up to a fully charged battery each day. This feature reduces the need for frequent refueling, benefiting both the environment and the driver’s wallet.

PHEVs also combine the flexibility of electric power with a traditional combustion engine when more power is required, such as during overtaking or handling steep terrain.

This dual power capability provides a seamless transition between electric and petrol power, making the J7 PHEV suitable for diverse driving conditions, whether in the city or on extended road trips.

Sustainable Impact and International Test Drive

Given Malaysia’s push toward cleaner mobility, PHEVs like the J7 could stand out for their contribution to reducing vehicle emissions, especially when the pricing is very competitive.

While both PHEVs and HEVs are designed to lower carbon footprints, HEVs rely more consistently on petrol, whereas PHEVs allow for prolonged electric-only operation, making them a cleaner choice in many driving contexts.

In a recent multinational challenge, JAECOO’s J7 PHEV was tested by participants from Italy, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and Malaysia, who collectively drove over 1,300 kilometers from Guangzhou to Wuhu, China, on a single tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, highlighting the vehicle’s endurance and efficiency.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV stands out as a powerful yet efficient plug-in hybrid SUV, offering up to 341 hp and 525 Nm of torque. Available in two variants — FWD and AWD — it boasts a remarkable range of up to 1,300 km, catering to both urban and off-road drivers with versatile driving modes.

Its 18.3 kWh battery supports DC fast charging of up to 40 kW, enhancing convenience, while outdoor-ready features like external power output make it perfect for adventurers.
