KUALA LUMPUR:  Jaecoo Malaysia is showcasing its latest plug-in hybrid SUV, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, at Sunway Pyramid this week, marking the vehicle’s first public exhibition ahead of its official launch in Malaysia by the end of this year.

Running until Sunday, October 27th, the exhibition offers visitors a chance to get up close with this cutting-edge SUV, which retains much of the bold design found in its petrol-powered sibling while offering a greener, more efficient driving experience.

What sets the J7 PHEV apart from its conventional counterpart is its hybrid powertrain, designed to deliver an unmatched driving range and versatility for those seeking adventure and efficiency.

Equipped with a plug-in hybrid system, it features an 18.3 kWh battery paired with a 1.5L turbocharged engine, producing a combined output of 341hp and 525 Nm of torque.

A standout feature of the J7 PHEV is its ability to support DC fast charging of up to 40 kW and AC up to 6.6kW, significantly reducing charging times for a more convenient ownership experience.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the vehicle's external output capabilities make it possible to power electronics such as kettles, hairdryers, and even projectors — a handy addition for camping trips or tailgate events.

Two variants of the J7 PHEV will be available, with the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) model offering seven driving modes, including off-road options like Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-Road.

Meanwhile, the Two-Wheel Drive (2WD) variant provides a more simplified selection with Standard, Sport, and Economy modes, focusing on efficiency and everyday usability.

Both variants promise a smooth ride, thanks to MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension setups, coupled with Kumho 19-inch tires.

Inside, the J7 PHEV continues Jaecoo’s focus on comfort and technology. The minimalist, tech-forward cabin features a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and an intuitive 14.8-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

The SUV also comes equipped with an advanced safety suite that includes eight airbags (TBD), Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Autonomous Emergency Braking, ensuring peace of mind for drivers and passengers alike.

With estimated prices ranging between RM170,000 and RM180,000, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is set to appeal to those looking for a stylish, high-performance SUV with the added benefit of hybrid efficiency.
