Indonesia welcomes Chery Tiggo 5X, targets young buyers

KUALA LUMPUR: Don’t get confused by the name Tiggo 5X, as back at home we call it the Tiggo 4 Pro. So, yes we aren’t missing out on anything. Let us now check what Chery’s entry-level model has to offer to the Indonesians.

Variants and price=

In Indonesia, Chery is offering the Tiggo 5X in two variant options called, the Classic and the Champion. They are priced as follows

• Tiggo 5X Classic - IDR 249 million (approx. RM 72k)
• Tiggo 5X Champion - IDR 279 million (approx. RM 80k)

However, there is a better deal for the first 1000 bookings. Chery Indonesia is reducing the price of both the trim options by IDR 10 million, making the variants cost IDR 239 million (approx. RM 69k) and IDR 269 million (approx. RM77k), Classic and Champion respectively.

Powertrain configuration

Under Chery Tiggo 5X hood sits a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder mill that makes a maximum power output of 111 hp along with a peak torque of 138 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a CVT gearbox.

Warranties & guarantees

Despite being a new model, the Tiggo 5X is accompanied by the same warranty as its more expensive siblings. So, every purchase of the compact crossover model will come with a 10-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty along with a six-year vehicle warranty. Chery is also offering a four-year free service programme. However, what’s impressive is the guaranteed buy-back at 70% of the original vehicle price which assures customers of the vehicle's resale value.

In Malaysia

The Tiggo 5X/Tiggo 4 Pro has been confirmed for the Malaysia market with the initial news coming out in March 2022. According to the latest reports, the car will arrive before the end of this year and will be priced close to RM 100,000.
