Honda SUV RS Concept previewed at the 2021 GIIAS show

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show has begun with all pomp and grandeur in Indonesia. On its first day, the show centre stages many new cars and one of them is the all-new Honda SUV RS Concept. While the Japanese automaker remains tight-lipped on revealing the SUV’s name and specs, it is supposed to be the upcoming ZR-V. 

The new SUV appears as a subcompact offering that is expected to be rivalling head-to-head against compact SUVs like the Toyota Raize and Perodua Ativa.

Styling-wise, the new Honda SUV RS Concept features sleek design elements, including a low roofline, and highly raked windscreen. We can also observe a broad front grille with the chequered pattern, full-width tail lights, deeply-contoured bumpers, and skid plates at the rear. With its crossover silhouette, the car looks more like a sporty SUV. 

In terms of features, the upcoming Honda SUV could borrow the stuff from the City, including LED headlights, a digital instrument cluster, an Alexa-powered infotainment unit, a sunroof, and the Honda Sensing suite of active safety features.

Not only features, but the car is also expected to mirror the City’s engine setup. This means it could get a 1.5-litre diesel engine churning out a maximum power output of 100 PS and a peak torque of 200 Nm. Another possibility is a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine good for making 120 PS and 173 Nm of torque. In addition, a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated unit could also be borrowed from the Jazz.

The upcoming Honda SUV will go on sale in Indonesia first, followed by the launch in India.
