Honda Ridgeline gets tougher looks for 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: In the global market, the current-generation of the Honda Ridgeline has been on sale since 2017 and is now set to receive a mid-cycle refresh. The automaker recently revealed its facelift version boasting a significant round of updates.

For 2021, Honda has introduced some bold styling modifications that result in a more rugged and modern-looking appearance of the truck. Key changes can be observed in the form of the all-new sheet metal from the front pillars forward, including a new hood with a stronger bulge, restyled fenders, and a more upright grille coupled with new LED headlights. Down below, the front bumper gets large side vents that direct the air through the bumper. 

At the rear, the new Ridgeline is almost unchanged; however, the bumper gets a couple of notches and dual-outlet exhausts, all 2021 Ridgeline trims will ride on 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-season tyres. 

Toyota also brings in a new Honda Performance Development appearance package that further adds unique designing elements to the truck. Inside, the pickup receives an updated infotainment system with new graphics and a physical volume knob. Top trims also get a restyled steering wheel, dashboard, and centre console accents.

On the technical front, the truck does not get any chassis or powertrain upgrade. It continues to get power from a 3.5-litre VTEC V6 engine generating 280 hp and 355 Nm of peak torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive comes as standard, while a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system is available on option.

As for safety, the 2021 Ridgeline comes fitted with the Honda Sensing suite as standard equipment. It includes a forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation with lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. 

The 2021 Honda Ridgeline will hit the US showrooms early next year. Coming to the home market, Honda’s pickup is not available here, however, the segment has some strong players such as the Ford Ranger and the all-new Toyota Hilux.
