Honda plans to launch ‘e:N Series’ electric vehicles in China
KUALA LUMPUR: Honda recently detailed its electrification strategy for the Chinese market, and as per that the Japanese automaker will launch only electrified vehicles (hybrid and pure EVs) in the country after 2030. But before that, it will introduce the ten electric cars under the “e:N Series” brand in China over the next five years, out of which it teased the five models.
The e:NS1 and e:NP1 are the first two e:N Series concepts, both are crossovers. While the former features a chunky face with sleek headlights with a sporty rear end, the latter seems a little less aggressive in terms of design. It looks identical to the SUV e: prototype, which the brand showcased at the 2021 Auto Shanghai earlier this year. These two EVs will hit production in the first quarter of 2022.
The next three Honda e:N Series designed concepts are:
- e:N Coupe Concept, an SUV
- e:N SUV Concept, a coupe
- e:N GT Concept, a grand tourer
While these three concepts have different body styles, they share a similar face featuring illuminated stripes spread across the entire width of the front fascia. They also feature extremely sharp edges on the body.
If we talk about the technical specifications of these e:N Series models, Honda did not reveal much except the fact that these EVs will underpin a new dedicated EV platform called the e:N Architecture. They will be packed with all modern features, including Honda CONNECT, a smart Digital Cockpit, and a more advanced Honda Sensing 360.
To begin its full-fledged EV business in China, Honda also plans to enhance its sales network in the country, which includes the creation of the particular e:N Series area within existing dealerships along with launching dedicated e:N dealerships in major cities. The automaker will also build dedicated EV production plants at GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda.
