Honda Jazz, Honda HR-V receive 5-star Rating - EuroNCAP Tests

Kuala Lumpur: The newly launched Honda HR-V and the all new Honda Jazz have proved their metal in the safety department as well, both these newbies recieved a full 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests.

Traditionally, Honda cars are known for their aesthetics and convineance more than anything else. However, the Asian giant has proved it is more substance than style. EuroNCAP standards get more and more tough every passing year so Honda should really be proud of its latest venture in the mid-range segment. This is the fourth car this year from Honda to recieve a 5 star rating, the other two being All-new Civic (still to be launched in Malaysia) and CR-V.

As some of you must be aware of it, the test include

- A head-on impact at 64 kmph, upon the impact 40% of the width up front of the car strikes a rigid barrier.

- A full width test – 100% width striking the barrier at 50 kmph.

- A side impact test – Where there is a mobile barrier that hits the car sideways at 50 kmph.

- A rigid pole test – In this case the car is drageed sideways into a rigid pole at 32 kmph.

As a result of this successful venture, Honda Jazz becomes the only second supermini car this year to achieve a 5-star NCAP rating. Both Honda Jazz and Honda HR-V come packing Honda's CBTA (City-Brake Active System). This system automatically detects whether there is a danger of collision on the road ahead and applies brakes accordingly.

Mazda CX-3, the closest rival of HR-V, albiet at a much higher price tag recently earned 4-star rating at Euro-NCAP. Lack of standard autonomous emegency braking cost Mazda a 5-star rating, it is however available as an optional feature in the car.

Honda HR-V is priced considerably low than Mazda CX-3 mainly because it is assembled locally here in Melaka. The crossover scored 15.21/16 in Adult Occupant Test alongside a decent 73% in Child Occupant Test. Honda Jazz on the other hand recieved 15.58/16 in Adult Occupant Test and 71% in Child Occupant Test.

Here is a list of features available as a standard in both Honda Jazz and Honda HR-V:

  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Traffic Sign Recognition System
  • Intelligent Speed Limiter
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • High-beam Support System
