Honda Extends Airbag Recall; Now Affects 143,970 Cars
KUALA LUMPUR: The Takata Airbag issue seems to have bitten all the leading manufacturers around the world. The latest victim is Honda Motor Co., which has announced another precautionary update involving 143,970 cars across Malaysia.
This new update follows a similar announcement by the manufacturer exactly a month ago, that engulfed 46,710 cars. Many leading manufacturers like Toyota, Dodge etc. have been recalling their products equipped with Takata airbags, that is reported to suffer from a faulty driver side airbag inflator module.
The latest recall update made by the Japanese manufacturer involves vehicles made between 2006- 2012. Affected models include the City (2006 to 2012), Civic (2006 to 2011), Civic Hybrid (2007 to 2011), CR-V (2007 to 2011), Insight (2011 to 2012), Jazz (2009 to 2012) and Stream (2007 to 2012).
Customers falling under the recall spectrum will be notified through letters containing details of the product update. Once the parts are available at official dealerships, the affected cars will be mended and the cost will entirely be borne by Honda Malaysia.
Customers may contact Honda's helpline 1-800-88-2020 to check whether their cars fall in the recalled category. The company has urged its customers to go to any authorized Honda dealer and check for any defects related to the Takata issue in their vehicles.
