Honda e:N1 EV to hit Thai shores soon; Will it come to Malaysia?

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda has commenced the production of the e:N1, a 100% electric SUV, at its Rojana Industrial Park facility in Thailand. This makes the auto giant the first Japanese automaker to locally assemble electric passenger cars in the Land of Smiles.

Honda's decision to produce the e:N1 EV in Thailand is a strategic and significant move, highlighting its enduring commitment to its operations in the country. This move not only strengthens the local automotive industry but also promotes the integration of domestically sourced components, the company says in the official press release.

Let’s know the key highlights of the Honda e:N1 EV -

• The Honda e:N1 is said to be the electric version of the Honda HR-V that comes with the name e:Ny1 in the European debut
• The EV is based on a newly-developed e:N Architecture F platform and features a high-rigidity body structure, under-floor aerodynamics, and a low centre of gravity
• It runs on a front-mounted electric motor that is tuned to deliver a maximum power of 204 hp and a peak torque of 310 Nm
• The motor is fed by a 68.8 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP-claimed driving range of up to 412 km on a single charge. The DC fast charging juices up 10 to 80% battery in 45 minutes

Honda Thailand will announce details of the e:N1 EV launch and distribution channels in the first quarter of 2024.

Will the Honda e:N1 EV come to Malaysia?

At the moment, Honda Malaysia is placing a strategic emphasis on hybrid technology, considering it a more practical and immediate solution. However, it will consider full electric solutions at a later date, signalling that the Honda e:N1 pure EV is not part of the immediate plans for the local market.
