Honda e grabs 2020 Red Dot Design award
KUALA LUMPUR: Honda e Concept was introduced in 2017, and back then, the car caught a lot of attention for its retro-chic design. However, when the concept came into production, its look didn't seem to change much.
The Honda e hatch not only showcases a retro-inspired exterior, but it packs in a lot of tech as well, which is why it grabbed the Red Dot: Best of the Best 2020 in automotive design. In short, it attained the title not only for its looks but also for its packaging and innovations.
The Honda EV, despite its small dimensions, was praised by the awarding body for its lounge-live atmosphere, which is a tough nut to crack for a subcompact car. Another reason why it won the judges' heart is its simple, human-centric design. It comes with a connected infotainment system and services that allow both the driver and occupant to benefit from connectivity - while on the go, stationary, or charging.
From the outside, the car looks clean and minimalist, all thanks to large round headlights and taillights. Also, instead of the bulky outside rearview mirrors, it gets cameras.
The same minimalistic theme is seen on the inside too. The car features a full-width digital dashboard lined with leather and wood. Also, it features two 12.3-inch LCD touchscreens. They act as primary infotainment display and instrument panel displaying useful driving-related information along with music and navigation.
Honda launched the e EV in Europe last year with other markets to follow soon. As for its Malaysian debut, we doubt it due to the lack of infrastructure.
