By the year 2030, Honda strives to electrify two-thirds of its global automobile sales. For this purpose, the automaker will strengthen the development of battery EVs along with fuel cell vehicles. One such car that will help Honda move a step forward in its electrifying dream is the Honda e.

Honda e is a compact, fully electric car inspired by the company's 2030 prediction and is expected to improve the busy urban environment. The EV is perfect for the modern urban youth and is an ultimate creation based on Honda's human-centred engineering philosophy.

Honda e EV details

The Honda e is without a doubt an eye-catching car and it is one of the reasons for its strong sales performance. Though there is a rare chance of Honda Malaysia adding this particular EV to its lineup we hear that several importers are getting it in the local market. Whatever may be the case, we get it or not, it is always good to know a unique, good-for-the-environment EV up close.

So, let's get started

Exterior design

The Honda e showcases a beautiful, uncluttered, simple car and will surely attract a lot of attention on the road. Making the car unique are up-to-the-minute innovations and clever ideas. The smooth lines not only enhance the overall appearance but reduce drag and improve efficiency. A few highlights being -

  • Single panel setup for headlights, radar sensor, and forward-facing camera
  • Two compact HD cameras instead of conventional mirrors
  • Dramatic black tinted glass roof
  •  Fit flush front door handles that extend out and illuminate when someone approaches the car
  • Rear door handles are hidden within the window area
  • Welcome animation by headlights on unlocking
  • Easily accessible charging point on the centre of the bonnet
  • 17-inch wheels (16-inch Standard) fitted with 205/45 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres

Ensuring a superb ride quality, keeping passengers away from hustle and bustle, Honda has used tactile surfaces and refined materials.

Unique to the cabin is a full-width digital dashboard with five displays that keep the passengers entertained, connected, and informed all the time. Included in the setup are two central 12.3-inch touchscreens with the ease to switch screens with a simple swipe, two 6-inch side units, and an eight-inch digital instrument cluster.

Performance figures

The Honda e is born to be electric, it offers clean, efficient, and dynamic performance with zero-emission. Power comes from a 35.5-kWh lithium-ion battery and drives the rear wheels through an electric powertrain (developed exclusively for the Honda e). Depending on the variant, two outputs are available - 136 PS and 154 PS, maximum torque is rated at 315 Nm.

Not to forget, the EV benefits from a clever system that keeps the batteries at their optimum working temperature, assuring maximum performance and range.

Charging tech

Honda e EV charging

Charing Honda e is super easy thanks to the centrally positioned charging point into the bonnet, giving easy access from either side. The integrated LED light indicates the charge status, a safety lock is also in place ensuring the power cable stays in place whilst in use.
